Meet our team!
Principal Investigator
Dr. Eva J. Ge
Assistant Professor
Department of Chemistry
UNC Charlotte

Postdoctoral Scholar, University of California Berkeley, 2019-2023
Ph.D. in Chemistry, Princeton University, 2013-2019
B.A. in Chemistry, Cornell University, 2009-2013
Originally from Ithaca, NY, Eva stayed in her hometown to complete her undergraduate degree in Chemistry at Cornell University and performed research on the targeted delivery of reactive oxygen and aldehyde species in biological systems in the lab of Professor Yimon Aye. After graduating, she moved to Princeton, NJ to pursue her Ph.D. in Chemistry at Princeton University in the lab of Professor Tom Muir. For her doctoral studies, she used peptide and protein chemistry tools to develop “designer” chromatin substrates for mechanistic studies of the chromatin-modifying complex PRC2. In 2019, Eva began her postdoctoral studies at University of California Berkeley in the lab of Professor Chris Chang. There, she combined chemoproteomic, biochemical, and cellular techniques to study copper-binding proteins. In fall 2023, Eva joined the Department of Chemistry as an Assistant Professor of Biochemistry at University of North Carolina Charlotte.

Chemistry M.S. Student
Ever Bonilla
B.S. in Biology with a concentration in Molecular and Cell Biology, East Carolina University, 2020-2023
Ever Bonilla was born in Long Island, NY and raised in Charlotte, NC. He attended East Carolina University for his B.S. in Biology with a concentration in Molecular and Cellular Biology and a Minor in Chemistry. Ever conducted research in three different labs in his undergraduate career with Dr. Robert M. Hughes, Dr. Shouquan Huo, and Dr. Eric Anderson. The lab with Dr. Hughes focused on the optimization of warfarin using biocatalyst in tandem with organic chemistry to carry out the experiments. Dr. Shouquan focused on adding to the library of organic metallic reactions using a platinum catalyst to induce CH activation. Lastly, Dr. Anderson focused on using biotechnology techniques to locate and determine the effects of a Bioweapon. Ever is currently pursuing his Masters in Chemistry at UNCC with hopes to complete a Ph.D. afterwards.

Chemistry M.S. Student
Jared Reeder
B.S. in Biomedical Science, Gardner-Webb University, 2019-2023
Jared was born and raised in Asheboro, NC. For undergrad he attended Gardner-Webb University in Boiling Springs, NC, majoring in Biomedical Science, and performing research under the guidance of Dr. Meredith Rowe focusing on the antimicrobial effects of various organic compounds in essential oils on human facial microbiota. While in undergrad, Jared also had the opportunity to be a part of the Nanoscale Science NSF-REU at UNC-Charlotte, working in the lab of Dr. Jerry Troutman, focusing on the use of prenyl analogues for the investigation of glycan biosynthesis pathways. Currently, Jared is pursuing his Masters in Chemistry at UNCC.
